I haven’t had time to write about all the cute things the girls are doing lately, and I better get at least a few things down for the blog before I forget them forever.
Hayden is mostly Miss Easy Going, except when she’s not (which is rare). She is speedy on her feet and moves around this house fast. Even slipping on our hardwoods and falling constantly doesn’t seem to slow her down. She LOVES to play peek-a-boo and explore the amazing wonders of our kitchen and living room. Little H also loves bath-time and makes sure anyone nearby gets fully splashed. She’s recently learned to point to her head, nose and ears when we ask her where those body parts are, which has us all quite impressed.
Stacking cups/bowls, books and paper are amazing wonders that can keep Hayden entertained for long periods of time – until she’s inspired by a new climbing challenge of course. She’s a big fan of the new table and chairs we got Maddy for her birthday and is so proud of herself when she climbs up that she gives us a big grin and bouncy dance every time she makes it to the top.
Her 15 month stats on 10/11 were: weight – 17 lbs, 10.5 oz (that’s the ZERO percentile); height – 28.5 inches (5th %); head circumference – 44.5 cm (12th %).
Maddy seems to think that she’s running this household, which I guess is mostly true even though Dave taught her to answer the question “Who’s the boss?” with his name. She is becoming more creative with her imaginative play. Most of it still involves reenactments of real life events, but I’ve noticed more fictional characters entering the plots from time-to-time and an occasional blurring of 2 events into one. She has taken up babysitting, sometimes for her dolls but mostly with Hayden this past week. Sometimes she actually decides that she’s Hayden’s mom until I remind her of all the responsibilities that go with that, to which she says “actually, I’m just going to be her babysitter, okay?” This involves feeding Hayden, giving her lots of hugs, and picking her up to carry her by her head (still trying to teach her to wrap her arms under Hayden’s armpits vs. tightly around her neck).
Maddy usually loves school and seems to have made some friends. During parent-teacher conference I learned that she initially was hesitant to participate in art projects because she was afraid to “get dirty” (sound familiar?) until the teacher explained that everything could wash off. Every time I pick her up at the end of the day, she squeals, jumps into my arms and giggles with pure joy. She can barely get the words out to tell me about her day because she’s so smiley and happy about it all.
Maddy also likes to have “deep” discussions. We watched the movie Madeline last night and it has spurred endless conversations about why each of the “scary” parts happened (i.e. having to go into the ambulance to get her appendix out, or falling into the Seine river). We also had a chat a few weeks ago with my mom about relationships between family members, and Maddy is still reminding me that “you are daddy’s wife, you are ba ngoai’s baby, Gavin is ba ngoai’s other baby, so Gavin is your brother, and I am YOUR baby.”
Her 3 year stats on 10/11 were: weight – 30 lbs, 10.5 oz (41st %); height – 37 inches (47th %).
